About

A resume builder that stays out of your way.

Recto is a free, open-source resume builder that runs entirely in your browser. You write, it typesets, and you download a clean PDF. No account, no watermark, and nothing you type is ever uploaded.

What Recto is

Recto is a guided resume editor with a live, print-accurate preview. You start from a strong example for your role, replace it with your own experience, and choose one of 8 hand-set page designs. 6 of them are single-column and built to be read reliably by applicant tracking systems. When you are done, you save an A4 or US Letter PDF from your browser, or copy a plain-text version for job portals.

Why it exists

Most online resume builders let you write for free, then ask for an account, a subscription, or a watermark-free upgrade at the moment you try to download. They also keep a copy of one of the most personal documents you own on their servers.

Recto takes the opposite approach. Every template and every export is free, and your resume is saved only in your browser's local storage. There is no server-side copy to read, sell, or leak.

Who builds it

Recto is designed and built by Mayank Singh and Nitin Kumar. It is an independent project, not a venture-funded company, which is why there is no sales funnel and no paid tier.

Principles

  • Private by default. Your resume content never leaves your device.
  • Free without catches. No account, no watermark, no locked templates.
  • Typography first. Real hierarchy and spacing, chosen for print.
  • Your words, any design. Switching templates never rewrites or loses content.
